Walk for A.Cure along the Grand Union Canal

Ade Cure, shown right with his wife Jane, was guest speaker at our last President's Dinner at the House of Lords. He was a proud, strong, determined man and raised over £30,000 for kidney cancer, most of which was donated to the James Whale Fund before he died of kidney cancer in March 2011 after a four year fight.

He had such a positive attitude to life that his brother-in-law Andy Coleman and Jane plan to take on this challenge in Ade’s memory, and are determined to smash the £10,000 target set for fund raising.

The walk began on Saturday 27 August, from Gas Street Basin in Birmingham (shown above), and many blisters were suffered walking 144.5 miles along the Grand Union Canal finishing on Saturday 3 September in Little Venice, London. The route followed was:

Sat 27 Aug Gas Street Basin to Rowington (bridge 62)
Sun 28 Aug Rowington (bridge 62) to Napton (bridge 108)
Mon 29 Aug Napton (bridge 108) to Bugbrooke (bridge 35)
Tues 30 Aug Bugbrooke (bridge 35) to Wolverton (bridge 76a)
Wed 31 Aug Wolverton (bridge 76a) to Linslade (bridge 115a)
Thur 1 Sept Linslade (bridge 115a) to Hemel (bridge 150)
Fri 2 Sept Hemel (bridge 150) to Cowley (bridge 190)
Sat 3 Sept Cowley (bridge 190) to Little Venice

You can watch a short video of the walk here -

You can help us to achieve our target in at least two different ways:

You can still make a donation on our JustGiving page, and a check on that page will show that over £18,000 has been raised so far. What a fantastic effort by all concerned.

Make a Text donation to 70070:

Simply Text 'JWKC01' followed by your donation amount (eg 'jwkc01£5')  to 70070 – watch out for any predictive text. Once you press 'Send' you will receive a confirmation text asking you to Gift Aid your donation, which only takes a few moments and adds 25% to your donation, at no cost to you.

Walk for A.Cure 2012

Fundraising for the 2012 event has already started when on Saturday 12th of November the village of Wellesbourne came to life with an early 'Christmas Fayre'. The event was organised to raise funds for next years 'Walk for A.Cure 2012' challenge, which is In memory of Ade who sadly lost his battle with Kidney Cancer in March this year.

To continue his legacy the local community supported the challenge by donating all proceeds made from the Fayre to go directly towards the costs of running next years 'Walk for A Cure challenge'.

The fayre was a great success and raised over £713.53 pence. On behalf of the Fund we would like to personally thank eveyone who was involved in the organising and supporting of the event.

We are now in the process of organising next years 'Walk for A Cure 2012' challenge and should have full details of how you can help available shortly.

Make it happen and help us 'Walk for a Cure!'
