Renal Cancer Study Day Wales

On Thursday 22nd April 2010 The James Whale Fund for Kidney Cancer held their first Specialist Renal Cancer Study Day in Wales.

With the support of Sarah Bennett, Urology Nurse Specialist, University Hospital Cardiff and of the South Wales Urology Group we put together an interesting study day for specialists in Wales.

The day was chaired by Lawrence McGinty ITN’s award winning science editor and covered the following topics: The Modern Management of Renal Tumours, by Mr Matthews of The Royal Gwent; laparoscopy and cryotherapy by Richard Coulthard of University Hospital Cardiff; Progress in the treatment of advanced renal caner: a truly remarkable story! By Professor Wagstaff, Singleton Hospital; Radio frequency ablation; Sunnitinib therapy management by Christian Smith, Velinder Hospital; and Living with Kidney Cancer - the patients' view by Rose Woodward, The Fund.

"the James Whale study day for nurses across South Wales provided an excellent update on the management of Kidney cancer from some of the experts in the field. It also provided a forum for which new ideas and projects could be shared and taken forward. the day has inspired myself and a colleague to explore the possibility of setting up a kidney cancer support group for local patients."

Christian Smith, Senior Oncologist Nurse Specialist, Velindre Hospital Cardiff.
