Fourteen-year-old Sam Allan donated all of the money he raised from a golf day held at Crondall's Oak Park Golf Club in Surrey on 3 June.
The pupil from Court Moore School in Fleet chose the James Whale Fund charity because one of his father’s close friends who is 40 is suffering from kidney cancer.
The day consisted of 12 teams of four players competing on the 18-hole golf course. The teams included two children’s teams. (It was half term week!).
There was a lunch at the clubhouse afterwards with an auction prizes, including a signed photograph of Pele which Sam is shown holding in the newspaper clipping, right.
Sam's mother, Fiona Allan, said that he had organised the event mainly on his own and hoped to raise more than £1,000. The Golf Day is part of Sam's AQA unit award scheme for under 16s. The scheme is guided and supported by Hart Voluntary Action development officer, Sue Vincent through Moor Court School. It introduces students to volunteering in the community to help others.
Students can choose their project or activity and on completion of their log books they receive an AQA accredited certification.
