On Saturday 15 May, Christine, Iain, Steve, Ellen, Alison, Fiona, Deb and Louise (some of whom are shown pictured above) will all be walking a very hilly marathon. Our motivation to get out and about, and up and down the hills of West Sussex, is partly for the joy of the countryside but mostly to support the James Whale Fund for Kidney Cancer.
Our own James (Pilcher variety), husband to Christine and friend to us all was unexpectedly diagnosed with kidney cancer in late 2008. So free of symptoms was he that the week before his illness was confirmed he ran a grueling eight and half mile cross country race in just over an hour! Following surgery to remove one kidney James has returned to normal life and now a year and a bit later continues his treatment.
All of us close to James want to do a bit to help and our way of supporting his cause, and by extension all other current and future sufferers of kidney cancer, is to try to raise the maximum possible funds for future research.
Cancer research continues to make great strides and as we slog up the last hill (and trust me it is a slog) we will be thinking of JP and hoping you in turn have dug deep in your pockets to support this worthy and for all of us very personal cause.
You can suport Christine and her team by visting her Just Giving page.
