New York City Marathon

Sam Salvoni has run the London Marathon and several half marathons in the last three or four years. In the London she raised money for Clic sargeant (children's cancer charity). On 1st November this year she will run the New York Marathon for the James Whale Fund.

Her good friend Rose Woodward is a kidney cancer survivor and founder of the Kidney Cancer Support Network. Rose, who also runs our patient forum writes:

"Sam is a lady of many talents, she is wonderful mum first and foremost to Elena and Rocco; but is a surfer, a runner and she is also a professional milliner and designs and hand makes wonderful hats which she sells in her shop called "Plum" in Church Street, Twickenham.  Alongside her unique hats, she sells fashion from young, up and coming designer labels.

Her huband Roberts' work takes him to New York quite often and it is a standing joke that Robert volunteers Sam for adventures. So when he realized he would be in New York in November, he convinced Sam to take part in the New York Marathon. They chose to raise funds to help the Kidney Cancer Support Network via the James Whale Fund charity and have started the Just Giving page  to try to raise £1,000.

Sam has always been interested in the support work I've been doing with kidney cancer patients and has kept me optimistic, even when the going got tough and patients and friends were being refused cancer treatment on the basis of cost.

She really wants to help the JWF raise awareness of kidney Cancer so fewer people are faced with a diagnosis of kidney cancer, because she knows what it meant when I was diagnosed. We have been friends for about 10 years and I'm very proud to be her friend, she is a kind and caring soul ( with boundless energy) and I love her to bits !!!

To help Sam on her way and to help us raise as much money as possible to continue our work, please visit Sam's sponsorship page at http://www.justgiving.com/sam-salvoni/.

We will let you know how Sam got on in the Marathon later in November. Thank you so much for any support you can give us."
