Mark and Adam Gill walked in memory of their grandad

Here is Mark's account:

"Well, we both got up at around 5am to drive from Grimsby, NE Lincs to the Yorkshire Dales and we were at the top of the first peak within about an hour and 45 mins.

Very misty early in the morning so we couldnt see the first peak (pen-y-ghent) until we were a lot closer to it.

After that it was about a 2 hour walk through muddy marshland (where there were numerous near losses of shoes and an actual loss of one of Adam's shoes to the mud temporarily) to the foot of peak two (Whernside) where we arrived with sodden socks.

Then it was another 1.5-2 hours to the top of Whernside where we could see peak three (Ingleborough). We set off down Whernside which was just as taxing as going up although more on the knees than calves and thighs and met our parents and Grandma at the foot of Ingleborough.

They accompanied us part of the way up Ingleborough, then because my Grandma and Mum had to head back to our accommodation to sort things out there, our Dad walked with us to the top of Ingleborough and all the way back to Horton in Ribblesdale where we arrived rather tired and slightly bewildered! Hehe."

The Doncaster Free Press ran a story on it.
