This was their report back to us for you: For some great pictures click here

Dear All,

At approximately 10am on Wednesday, 2 July, the Cambridge Cross-Channel Swim Team set off from Shakespeare Beach, with the aim of reaching French soil, by swimming the 22 miles across the English Channel. After 10 hours and 19 minutes, our team of six (three men and three woman), were successful in achieving this goal. On this occasion, we were met with very strong opposition from our Oxford counterparts, with them taking victory in a time of exactly 10 hours.

During the race, conditions were mixed, with 14 degree water temperatures and random rain squalls hitting the group. Everyone faced personal challenges during their time in the water, with dehydration and sea sickness being common place. Nearly all swimmers had to complete two hours in the chilly waters, however, thanks to the support of the rest of the team, each swimmers performed above and beyond.

Thanks to the amazing support of the Cambridge and University communities, we have raised over £1600 for The James Whale Fund for Kidney Cancer.

Thank you all very much for your support and well wishes during this challenge.

Kind Regards,
University of Cambridge Cross-Channel Swim Team.
