Kidney cancer supporters lobby MP at Parliament
Charity cyclists James Blackett and his friends arrived in London on Monday 2June at the end of their 140-mile bike ride to lobby Richard Bacon, MP on behalf of his father, David Blackett. David is suffering from kidney cancer and is having to funding his own treatment due to draconian rules around health care and PCT’s inconsistencies in prescribing the life extending drug, Sutent. Joined by family friends and broadcaster and chairman of the James Whale Fund for Kidney Cancer, James Whale, James Blackett handed a letter to Mr. Bacon on the steps of the Houses of Parliament, to be passed the Prime Minister, demanding better treatment for his father and all kidney cancer sufferers across the UK.
James and his friends started cycling on Saturday 31 May from his home in Tasburgh, Norfolk, stopping off at Colchester on Saturday, Basildon on Sunday then heading on and arriving on she dual at 11am on Monday in Westminster.

James Whale said; “What James has done for his father is fantastic. I can’t believe in this day and age that sons, daughters, husbands and wives have to go to these extremes to get fair and proper treatment for their sick loved ones. Just this week we have the tragic news that Linda O’Boyle has died after being refused treatment by the NHS because she dared to pay for drugs that would extend her life! This is a national disgrace, but it happens more than people know and it is cash for lives, it’s that simple. The PCTs and N.I.C.E have to end this now. Help kidney cancer patients to lead as full and dignified life as is possible.”
