The Fund was set up by broadcaster James Whale who lost a kidney to cancer in 2000. Now the UK’s most listened to night-time presenter on the national radio station talkSPORT. James continues to lead a full and busy life, as do the majority of people whose kidney cancer is diagnosed and treated early. People like BBC News 24 newscaster Nicholas Owen, another of our supporters.

Every year almost 6,200 people in the UK learn that they have kidney cancer. That’s over 16 people a day. And yet the condition – the tenth most common cancer among men – rarely attracts much public attention. Our mission at the James Whale Fund is to try and change that by:

• helping to reduce the incidence of kidney cancer by increasing knowledge and awareness, and by supporting research into the causes, prevention and treatment of the disease

• providing a support network offering advice, information and encouragement to those who’ve been diagnosed with kidney cancer and their carers

But we can’t achieve these goals without you. So, whether you’ve had kidney cancer, or live with and look after someone who has the disease, if you’re a medical professional with experience of the condition, or someone who simply wants to help, please give the Fund your time, expertise or money.
